The Palm Beach County college bus driver is being recommended for her quick
thinking right after her vehicle caught fireplace in Jupiter around seven: 45
Wednesday morning.
Hand Beach County Fire Save says there were about thirty-five young children
on board when the tour bus driver smelled something unusual and pulled over near
Hibiscus and Pennock Point highways in Jupiter.
Fire Recovery officials commend the car owner for acting quickly and all of
the children off the coach immediately and safely.
The college district identified the operater as Kerra George, the 19 year
veteran. Within an interview Wednesday afternoon Kerra said, "I got upward out
of my seat as well as told them 'evacuate' which is what we do. "
“(The driver) parked the bus which was out of the mainstream of the visitors,
an area where she might get those children to an section of safe refuge. I’m
unfamiliar with their emergency procedures, however I’m willing to bet the girl
followed them to the nines, " said District Main Palm Beach Fire Relief Anthony
Tozzi.
Tozzi stated the driver was actually able to get all of the students' back
packs and lunch boxes from the bus.
When firefighters showed up, they saw smoke and also flames coming from the
back of the actual bus where the engine is situated.
Lauren Okleshen was waiting around with her 11 year-old child who was waiting
