Currently, Maruti
sells diesel cars with a 1300cc engine which it makes under a license from
Italian car giant Fiat. But Suzuki's new diesel engine will be extremely fuel
efficient and is expected to give a mileage of almost 30 kmpl. Price conscious
buyers will surely find this offer highly attractive.
Maruti Suzuki is
about to introduce the country's most fuel-efficient 800cc diesel engine in next
two months. The company plans to put the new engine in its Celerio hatchback
vehicle. The engine has been developed by Suzuki indigenously. The highly fuel
efficient engine is expected to fetch a good response from consumers. MD and CEO
of Maruti Suzuki, Kenichi Ayukawa, said that the engine will be inducted soon.
He also said that although there is no confirmation on the mileage of the
engine, buyers can expect anything close to 30 kmpl. Maruti's Celerio, which
will be carrying the new engine, was launched in February last year. Its diesel
version will surely be a treat for automobile enthusiasts looking for
low-budget, fuel-efficient compact cars.
Currently, only a
few cars in India carry a small diesel engine. General Motors' compact car Beat
runs off a 1000cc diesel engine and provides a fuel efficiency of 25 kmpl. But
with Celerio's diesel variant ready to roll out, buyers may give a cold shoulder
to other vehicles in this segment. Celerio will carry, what seems to be, the
highest fuel efficiency in India for compact diesel cars.
Now, the new engine
will surely go a long way in bringing down vehicular emission. The emissions of
a diesel vehicle in this segment are currently higher than the ones in the
proposed model. With the new Celerio's introduction in the market, fuel
emissions will surely go down due to better mileage. The new Celerio will
burn less amount of fuel for any given distance and hence prove to be more
eco-friendly. Thus, it seems that the new engine will be lighter on the wallet
as well as the environment.
