The actual 200HP OXE Diesel is going to be trialled
onboard a workboat at Marine Harvest’s trout farm off the Island associated with
Colonsay in the Inner Hebrides.
“OXE is the first
diesel powered with the horsepower to meet our own requirements and subject to
the actual satisfactory outcome of the demo, enables Marine Harvest Ireland to
benefit from significant price and logistic advantages within the remote areas
where Marine Pick operates. In the Scottish Highlands and Islands petrol
channels are scarce and prices are a couple of the highest in the UK”, stated
Colin Whitehead, Engineering Office manager (South), Marine Harvest.
Jeremy Paul, General Manager regarding Hampshire based
MDS Sea said that the company will be getting the first production units within
spring 2016.
In addition to seaside fishing, aquaculture and ferry
operations, other potential programs include survey work, unexpected emergency
services, EEZ protection along with other paramilitary operations.
OXE Diesel powered has the highest power thickness of
any marine diesel-powered and offers the range and performance to work in the
extreme environments needed by commercial operators. Additionally, it allows
outboard engines specifically where petrol engines tend to be prohibited on
safety reasons, such as for most naval software. As well as offering lower
maintenance along with a longer service life, diesel provides lower fuel
consumption and is safely stored on website and above ground with regard to easy
access.
OXE Diesel includes a unique self-contained belt
propulsor unit (S-BPU) that removes the traditional high maintenance bevel gears
and transfer shafts by utilising the latest seat belt drive technology. It
utilizes a conventional automotive engine prevent adapted for marine utilize.
Unlike most outboards OXE is mounted horizontally, that improves reliability and
decreases maintenance.
